Because these gifts are given by the Holy Spirit, they are not natural abilities. Natural abilities are innate to one’s physical conception, though they manifest in time and develop through practice. Spiritual gifts are received at the new birth, but must be recognized and developed. Whereas natural abilities can be used for both one’s own glory and God’s glory, spiritual gifts are solely to be used to glorify God.
There are four passages which outline the various spiritual gifts available — Romans 12:6-8, 1 Corinthians 12:6-10, 1 Corinthians 12:28 and 1 Peter 4:11.
