The Kingship of Christ: Part 2 - Prophecy, the Scepter

TBC Glassboro Sermons and More · The Kingship Of Christ: Part 2 - Prophecy, The Scepter
The earliest prophecy foretelling of the Kingship of Christ is found in the Torah. Jacob prophesied that the coming Messiah would be a King and He would come from the tribe of Judah.
  • The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes, And to him shall be the obedience of the peoples. - Genesis 49:10

Further, the scepter or staff, that is the symbol of the authority, will not pass from Judah until Shiloh comes.  The term until means in perpetuity.  Ultimately, the symbol of authority will culminate in Shiloh — the person of peace.  Shiloh is none other than the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ.

Balaam, the prophet for hire, attempted to curse Israel, but instead uttered a prophecy about the coming King.
  • I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near; A star shall come forth from Jacob, A scepter shall rise from Israel, And shall crush through the forehead of Moab, And tear down all the sons of Sheth. - Numbers 24:17

The concept of the scepter is a symbol of kingship.  The specifics of this kingship are revealed in the David Covenant.
  • When your days are complete and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your descendant after you, who will come forth from you, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. - 2 Samuel 7:12-13

    WHY TWO MINUTES?

The Two-Minute Rule states “When you start a new habit, it should take less than two minutes to do.”   The idea behind the rule is to make a habit easy to start.
One of the goals for 2-Minute Theology is to help believers develop a theological habit.
Another goal is to provide believers with a resource they can use to 'test the spirits' to see if they are from God.
